The world of digital and electronic publishing has recently taken a step forward with Social Edition. The social networks have changed the way we receive and consume texts, enabling the reader to interact with the text through contextualisation and interpretation. As yet very few works of universal literature are offered to readers in a format which is still open to technological research.
UNIVERSO CERVANTES launches the first social edition of Don Quixote, with the following key points:
- Based on one of the most reliable and academically sound editions that exist (ed. Florencio Sevilla).
- Each episode begins with readers’ interpretations and comments. These personal contributions, however, require the user to register and accept the established mechanisms for moderation. The most interesting comments will be selected and will be linked to metadata which will aid their classification and search options.
- The text has approved links to other explanatory or illustrative websites.
- A search engine is included with a range of search parameters to allow for specific searches relating to both the text itself and the comments: for example the characters, themes, places, etc.
